Marcela has lived in Portland, Oregon for over 20 years. Born in Monterey, Nuevo León, México, she grew up and studied fashion design in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
In early 2000, she was invited to be part of a runway event called “La Noche de los Magos”, a homage to Mexican artist, painter and sculptor Alejandro Colunga, held in the historic heart of Guadalajara, Mexico and having the Hospicio Cabañas as a backdrop.
Once in Portland and while her kids were at school, she launched Myriam Marcela in 2014 with her Vintage Renewal line, transforming vintage pieces into new designs, showcased at trunk shows and pop-up events.
That same year, she won Portland’s Best Emerging Designer, which propelled her into the fashion industry.
After attending the Women's March in January 2017, Marcela returned to her studio inspired to create a collection that empowers women worldwide while fostering collaboration across borders. Wild Woman was born — a wearable art couture collection in which all pieces will be auctioned off to benefit Fondo Semillas, (a Mexican Society for Women's Rights).
As part of her Wild Woman collection, in 2019, Marcela was invited to collaborate with the French luxury furniture brand Roche Bobois to create two chairs , which will be featured in the collection's auction.
Her work has been featured at the 92nd annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, for Arianne Sutner (producer of the animated motion picture, Missing Link).
Additionally, in 2022 her Wild Woman collection was featured alongside the Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Mexican Modernism Exhibition at the Portland Art Museum.
Through her craft, she honors couture process while embracing sustainability, the challenges of repurposing, and the artistry of garment construction. Over the years, she's been creating one-of-a-kind custom clothing, and today, Myriam Marcela continues to redefine luxury fashion, offering bespoke creations that transcend trends and stand as timeless works of art.
